STUART, FL – Burdette Jon Dlouhy, 78 died on January 1, 2015 at Salerno Bay Manor Nursing Home in Stuart, Florida. Ms. Dlouhy died from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

Burdette was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on August 10, 1936, to James and Mary Ann Fee. Survivors include her husband Frank Dlouhy, Sr. and son Frank Dlouhy, Jr. both of Stuart, FL; three brothers, James Freeman, Denver, CO; Kenneth Fee, Cedar Rapids, IA; Everett (Jack) Fee, Canmore, Alberta, Canada; and one sister, Judith Moss, of Iowa City, IA. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Paula Lyons, David Dlouhy, Zachary Burns, Victoria (Salas) Salcedo, and Amy Salas; three great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and the many friends she knew during her lifetime. She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter (1988), Mary Helen (Dlouhy) Salas.


Burdette graduated from high school in Cedar Rapids and was united in marriage to Frank E. Dlouhy on March 21, 1955. She enjoyed donating her time to many charities, traveling, reading, gardening, and arts and crafts. Her great sense of humor and storytelling was legendary. She loved to cook and often organized events for family and friends. In 1972 she moved to Lompoc, California where she first worked as a medical transcriptionist. She soon started her own business as a big rig owner-operator. After more than a decade of driving coast to coast, she settled down and went to work for the Santa Barbara School Board and the Lompoc Unified School District until her retirement in 2005. In 2010, she remarried her first love, Frank Sr. In 2012, they both moved to Stuart, FL where she spent her remaining years with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will always be remembered as a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and dear friend.

Treasure Coast Seawinds Funeral Home arranged for cremation services. A ceremony spreading her ashes into the ocean was recorded on video and will be replayed during a live interactive Internet tribute (Web-Service) at 2pm EST on February 15, 2015.
